Recently at Dieselheads we carried out a Discovery 4 engine rebuild. This being our most common engine the 3.0 TDV6.
The vehicle came to us with a seized engine so we correctly suspected the engine had suffered from crankshaft failure. The vehicle was brought in and the process of removing the engine was completed. The engine was then stripped to find not only damage to the crankshaft and bearings but in this case the crankshaft itself had snapped into 2 pieces. This of course causing a great deal of damage to the block.

The engine block was in no suitable condition to use so we needed to replace it. Continuing on from this the usual components were replaced and engine was rebuilt up with. Which of course included a new OE crankshaft, main and conrod bearings. The reassembly process with this Discovery was fairly straightforward with no surprises and so was completed in around 1 week. Often we find vehicles that has been worked on previously and to a bad standard of work. So this usually makes the process more difficult as we encounter things that are broken, incorrectly fitted or dangerous.

With the engine assembly built up with new components the ancillaries were reattached, the power unit was refitted and the vehicle was tested with no issues.
The vehicle is now running very smoothly. Another successful Discovery 4 engine rebuild for another happy customer!
