LAND ROVER 3.6 TDV8

Engine Rebuild

Land Rover Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 Common Failures

3.6 tdv8 rebuild

The Land Rover 3.6 TDV8 engine vehicles we have here at Dieselheads have all had the same failure, so we believe this to be the most common. The 3.6 TDV8 engine is very strong generally speaking, however it has an issue with the turbochargers. Also like other Land Rover engines the intake of oil through the turbocharger causes it to spin, rev up the engine and so overloads the internals and causes failure. The only other notable issue with this engine is the material composition of the valves. These are often heavily corroded upon inspection so need to be replaced. After we have carried out a successful rebuild and replaced turbochargers we consider this V8 to be very durable, if serviced correctly.

Engine History

The 3.6 TDV8 is derived from the same general design as the Lion V6 platform (AJD-V6 2.7 TDV6). Developed by Ford and manufactured in Ford’s Dagenham plant in 2006. Because this is twin turbocharged this has a power output of 268hp. The 3.6 TDV8 was fitted to the Range Rover Sport and also the Range Rover Vogue. The engine was produced on the same production line as the 2.7 TDV6, because of this you can see the resemblance in certain design elements.
